Abstract

Studies on the influence of defects of various nature on the mechanical and operational properties of rail steel are presented. The results of studying and analyzing the condition of rail steel at various stages of its operation, as well as the reasons for removing rails from rolling stock, are considered. The increased interest and increase in information in this area is due both to the practical significance associated with the increasing requirements for the reliability of rails in conditions of high traffic intensity, and the increase in loads on the axles of rolling stock, increasing speeds and weight of trains, in severe conditions of the upper structure of the track in various climatic conditions, and the desire for a deeper understanding of the fundamental knowledge of physical metallology.
