Abstract

This research was conducted because of the issue of exhaustible energy in Indonesia, particularly in the architecture and construction division. One of the methods to reduce energy-use in buildings is by using passive lighting techniques. This research examined several types of passive lighting techniques to determine the advantages and disadvantages of this type of lighting, as well as their implementation in Indonesia. Three types of passive lighting that will be analyzed in this study are light pipes, mirror ducts, and light shelves. Literature studies and precedents are used as a comparison for analysing the types of passive lighting and as precedents to determine the variables and parameters in the simulation. Simulations are carried out to calculate effectiveness based on the parameters that have been chosen. In addition, a survey in the form of a questionnaire was conducted to see the preferences and implementation of passive lighting among practitioners in the architectural field in Indonesia. This research is expected to be a source of information and can be used by architects to understand more deeply about passive lighting and its effect on the energy efficiency of buildings.
