Abstract
This paper aims to perform a multi-criteria analysis regarding the role of accessing structural funds for RDI projects as a main tool for sustaining and stimulating the innovation activities in Romania. Therefore, the paper encompasses a concise and systematic research regarding the evolution of RDI sector and its contributions in fostering the innovation activities, the analysis criteria consisting in: the contribution of RDI projects to increase economic competitiveness through innovation based on RD and the contribution of RDI projects to develop the scientific research capacity and disseminate scientific research. Achieving this goal is important precisely due to the fact that in the absence of encouraging and creating the necessary facilities for accessing structural funds for implementing RDI projects, the innovation activity will never have the resources to become a core factor of the economic and social development of Romania.
