Abstract

Higher education institutions, as important cultural centers in their regions, also play an important role in promoting local economic and social development. However, due to the imbalance of regional development, the efficiency of higher education in China also varies significantly between different regions. Therefore, based on the perspective of meeting the needs of regional social and economic development, the paper analyzes the efficiency and trend of regional higher education in China by DEA method using panel data from 31 provinces and cities in China from 2016 to 2019.The results show that the overall efficiency of higher education in China is in a non-DEA effective state, and the urgent task is to rationally allocate and optimize the structure of higher education resources among regions. At the same time, the development of higher education in China shows a significant pattern of unbalanced development, and it is urgent to formulate reasonable and optimized development strategies according to the characteristics of social and economic development in different regions and their reality.
