Abstract

The RED scheme allows to prevent global synchronization of the sources associated with drop-tail buffers. However, from a control point of view, the drop-tail discipline could lead to strong oscillations and complex behavior of the system. In this paper, the behavior of TCP in high bandwidth-delay product network is analyzed. Secondly, a model of TCP network using RED is described, including RED drop function and model of TCP source. Thirdly, the linear analysis of a single link topology is focused. Finally, a sufficient condition for the stability of a network using RED is given and an engineering approach to select network and protocols’ parameters that lead to stable operation of the linear feedback control system is presented.
