Abstract

An energy efficient routing protocol is proposed to address the problem of limited sensor energy in wireless Sensor Networks. In this paper authors proposed the EMLEACH (Enhanced Modified LEACH) algorithm for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which is based on the LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) algorithm. An energy equation that takes into account the residual energy of each node is introduced, which improves the cluster head selection and data transmission processes. It reduces the sensor nodes’ energy consumption. In terms of overall network lifetime, the simulation results of EM-LEACH outperform the conventional LEACH. When LEACH was compared to the proposed EMLEACH, there was a significant improvement in lifetime and performance.
