Abstract

Large-scale wind power integration will have a great impact on power system operation. Carbon capture power plant (CCPP) shows flexible operation performances, and has the potential to be operated coordinately with wind power. This paper analyzes and proposes a coordinated operation mechanism for wind power and CCPP, in which wind power could be directly delivered to the CO2 capture system and serves as an auxiliary energy supplier for the CCPP. Coordinated operation benefits are identified. Firstly, the fluctuated wind power can be flattened by controlling the operation of the CCPP. Secondly, wind curtailment can be reduced significantly by delivering the curtailed wind power to the CCPP. Besides, in electricity markets, the coordinated operation mechanism can be helpful to mitigate the deviation penalties between forecasted and actual wind power outputs. Numerical examples based on real operation data are illustrated to evaluate the benefits of the proposed mechanism.
