Abstract

Gas-insulated metal-enclosed transmission line (GIL) is a new type of transmission equipment, which can be used to connect overhead line, GIS, transformers and switchgear in power plants. With the development of UHV transmission projects in China, the amount of GIL projects is increasing year by year, while its faults have been paid more attentions by researchers. This paper divides the popular faults in GIL projects which have been put into operation into two types: mechanical fault and discharge fault. Each type is subdivided with specific fault examples, whose mechanisms and suggestions on feasible treatment steps are discussed. The on-the-spot experiment verifies the correctness of the analysis results, which can provide references for the project builders.
