Abstract

In this paper the equivalent circuits of machines for the production of Reverse Field Pinch (RFP) are studied. The field reversal can appear spontaneously, as in Zeta, or can be produced by programming the external field. Various models have been proposed in the Literature to describe the behaviour of the plasma: among others it can be reminded the force free paramagne tic model and the Bessel function model; the last has been used by Taylor [1] to demonstrate that the RFP is a state of minimum energy. Similar results have been obtained [2] with the sharp boundary model, which is used in this note to study the setting up of the configuration. Nevertheless the proposed method is indipendent from the model and can be applied to the other cases. The equivalent circuits are given in which auxiliary voltage generators are proposed to simulate the field reversal: currents and voltages are calculated together with the energy balance. Finally some different programming modes are proposed and discussed.
