Abstract

Following the discussion by Still & White (1981), an investigation of the properties of approximate randomization tests used in place of analysis of variance is presented.Errors in Still & White have been corrected and explanations are offered for some of the consequent discoveries. As a result of this, more reserved conclusions about the power of the approximate randomization test relative to the usual F test are made.
