Analysis of Users’ Acceptance towards a Handheld Healthcare Information System in an Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic

Abstract

Many research have focused on how to improve the healthcare efficiency. Efficient use of clinic resources is critical in times of fast growing health care costs. The motivation of this research is to look into issues in improving efficiency in the healthcare industry with the latest technologies such as handheld devices. In this research, system functions, as well as usability factors and perceived usefulness for mobile technology, is evaluated for a healthcare information system (HIS) in an outpatient physical therapy clinic. A user’s acceptance survey was developed based on an altered version of the Technology Acceptance Model 3 (TAM 3) to see how well the system is accepted and attempt to understand why. A total of nine variables with a total of 12 questions was included in the survey along with the users’ intention to use the system. Based on the data from 20 participants in this study, the results showed that the perceived enjoyment (ENJ) variable was highly positively correlated to user’s intention to use the system. Moreover, aggregating all but the computer anxiety (CANX) variable into two components, feeling and performance, could explain up to 72 percent of the users’ behavior intention to the system.
