Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical application of autofluorescence bronchoscopy (AFB) through typical cases. Methods Data of 56 cases were retrospectively collected, who were examed by AFB combining with white light bronchoscopy (WLB) in the hospital from June 2009 to September 2009. In these cases, seven typical ones were selected to indicate the clinical application value of AFB. Results In one case, early mucosal lesions of lung cancer was diagnosed by AFB. In one case,false-positive diagnosis of lung cancer was corrected by AFB. In two cases, AFB was used to define the surgery scope and determine the therapeutic strategy for non-small cell lung cancer patients. In two cases, recrudescence of stump after operation of lung cancer and new cancer were found by AFB examination. One case was a special one finding foreign matter. Conclusions Compared with alone WLB examination, the combination of WLB and AFB shows higher sensitivity and specificity on the diagnosis of early central lung cancer,is an effective tool on screening and early diagnosis of lung cancer. It also can guide to select appropriate therapy before operation, and help to early detect tumor recurrence after operation. Key words: Lung neoplasm; Autofluorescence bronchoscopy; White light bronchoscopy; Early detection
