Abstract

In future, parallel AC and DC medium voltage overhead lines and underground cables could be in operation together. Coupling can lead to overvoltages and overcurrents, which may have a negative impact on various operating resources. In this paper, firstly the relevant coupling mechanisms for medium voltage level overhead lines and cables are identified. Then, the analysis of exemplary overhead line and cable arrangements is presented in terms of their transient electromagnetic interference. Comparison with steady-state results shows that the steady-state analysis is not sufficient for every arrangement. Effects of mutually coupled voltages and currents on electrically connected adjacent operating resources are pointed out.
