Abstract

The simulation models of the 500kV gas-insulated transmission lines (GIL) and gas-insulated substation (GIS) systems in a realistic nuclear plant are presented in the paper. The Very Fast Transient Overvoltage (VFTO) which is generated during switching operations, is analyzed. Some affecting factors on the level of the VFTO are investigated. These factors are the location of the power source, the entrance capacitance of the potential transformer (PT), and the capacitive voltage transformer (CVT). At last, some suggestions on overvoltage calculations or calculations of electromagnetic interference sources are proposed. The conclusions can be used in insulation designing and analyzing the electromagnetic interference on the secondary system in nuclear plants and substations.
