Abstract

An ecological monitoring survey of the freshwater ecosystem of the Pyasachnik Dam was carried out in the period 2011-2016. The main indicators of surface water quality such as temperature, transparency, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, N–NH4, N–NO2, N–NO3, orthophosphates P, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and chlorophyll a content were monitored. Hereafter, the obtained results are discussed by years and seasons. The chemical status and ecological potential of the freshwater ecosystem were determined. The investigated surface waters are suitable for irrigation, but with a permanent mandatory monitoring. Keywords: ecological potential, irrigation, physicochemical monitoring, chemical status, chlorophyll
