Abstract

A procedure is proposed for analysis of the settlements of buildings and structures using an elasto-viscoplastic model, which accounts for shape-altering deformations that develop over time. A conclusion concerning the major role of shape-altering deformations in the development of settlements of beds composed of saturated clayey soils is drawn on the basis of long-term observations of 15 buildings in Saint Petersburg.
