Abstract

This paper describes an investigation into the growth of electrical trees in polyethylene by the simultaneous measurement of light intensity and partial discharges. The emission of light has been studied using an image intensifier. A comparison of the results obtained for different types of trees has been made. The detection of discharges shows that each category of tree is characterized by a particular discharge rate.
