Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of healthy program with partial body weight support (PBWS) in stroke and to establish the reliability and understanding of noxiousness of cardiovascular disease-related stroke. The subjects were 15 male rats and 12 patients with stroke admitted for treatment were recruited for the present study. In vitro test, blood pressure, vascular smooth muscle tension, and histological change were measured, respectively. Furthermore, the healthy program consisted of administering concentrative training for 4 weeks. The walking parameters were measured using the automatic gait system. The blood pressure, pulse pressure, muscle contraction and collagenous protein were increased in hypertensive models compared with sham-operated control groups. Meanwhile, the velocity of walking significantly increased after the PBWS in subjects with cardiovascular disease-related stroke. Furthermore, the step length symmetry ratio and swing phase symmetry ratio were significantly improved after the healthy program. These results suggest that the hypertensive animal is associated with changed stress response of deoxycorticosterone and the healthy program with partial body weight support may, in part, contribute to clinically relevant improvements in physical motion.
