Abstract

Statement of the problem. With the rapid development of the national economy and the continuous increase in road traffic, as a result, the issue of early destruction of asphalt pavement under heavy load and over-limit is becoming more and more serious as it might potentially shorten the service life of asphalt roads. To solve this problem, it is necessary to reconsider the approach to the design and construction of pavements. Results. A comprehensive monitoring of the state of the operated section of China's expressway in Shandong Province was carried out, including the analysis of heavy load traffic and pressure in the wheels of vehicles, the analysis of vertical deformations recorded using the FWD shock loading installation, as well as the analysis of tensile stresses in bending and shear stresses in various types of structures of road surfacing. Conclusions. The values of deflection of various types of asphalt concrete pavement structure under heavy load, shear stresses of the upper layer and tensile stresses of the base layer, and other mechanical parameters are obtained. The main failure characteristics of different types of asphalt pavement structures are given, recommendations are provided for the combination of asphalt pavement structure and design parameters suitable for heavy-load traffic in China (Shandong).
