Abstract

Considerable research efforts have been devoted to the study of the interaction between the human head and various types of handset antennas used in mobile communications equipment. Such studies are necessary for evaluating possible health hazards as well as for assessing the effect of the human head on the antenna performance. Most published works dealing with the interaction between canonical head models and handset antennas are based on the assumption that the current along the antenna has a predetermined distribution. Consequently, the effect of the presence of the head in the current distribution is not taken into account. In this paper, a semianalytical technique based on the use of the dyadic Green's function theory and the method of moments (Green/MoM) is presented with the aim of evaluating the interaction between a three-layer dielectric sphere head model and a radiating helical antenna. The method can be used in order to evaluate the antenna input impedance and radiation pattern as well as the electric field distribution inside the head model.
