Abstract

This article deals with the numerical simulation of flow in a shell and tube type heat exchanger, where the flowing media are exhaust gas and water. The objective of the numerical simulation is to evaluate the effect of the geometrical changes of the inlet and outlet volumes on the exhaust gas current and temperature field at the outlet of the heat exchanger using CFD analysis. The first part of the article describes the original variant, new geometrical changes and the creation of a computational mesh. In total three new variants are created. Then follows a comparison of the results from the original variant and the best new variant. ANSYS 16.2 software was used to create the new geometry variants, the computational mesh and numerical simulations as it contains all the programs needed for these operations, such as DesignModeler, ICEM CFD, CFX-Pre, CFX-Solver Manager. All the results were evaluated in CFD-Post.
