Abstract

The research on the failure pressure of perfect pipeline is the basis of evaluating the bearing capacity of defective pipeline. The applicability of impact factor of theoretical and empirical failure pressure prediction models for thin-walled pipes are evaluated with 77 full-scale burst test data. Impact factors analyzed in this study include diameter D, strain hardening exponent n, flow stress and yield criterion. The diameter D and strain hardening exponent n have less effect on the prediction of failure pressure of defect-free pipeline, while the flow stress and yield criterion have significant influence on the prediction of failure pressure. For the failure pressure assessment of defect-free pipelines, average shear stress yield (ASSY) criterion is the best applicable criterion, followed by Tresca and von Mises yield criterion. 1.0σu is the most accurate calculation method of flow stress for failure pressure of defect-free pipeline.
