Abstract
Periodic magnetic focusing of electron beams is analyzed by taking account of the real focusing field distribution. The effect of nonsinusoidal magnetic fields and that of radial variations of the magnetic induction upon focusing and stability of electron beams are investigated. Relations are obtained to determine system parameters optimizing beam-focusing conditions. These relations may be used for calculating electron paths in short magnetic lenses and in transition regions of focusing structures.
