Abstract

Purpose: Conduct a structured survey of data from subway systems in medium-sized cities. Establish the factors that integrate their feasibility in order to create scientific thinking on the subject. Methods: National and international cities were studied, making a comparison before and after the implementation of the subway system. In these surveys the subway was verified as an alternative of mass transport, a pattern was verified that justified the proposal of implantation in this way. A proposal of a subway network was studied in the pilot city Franca / SP, analyzed through the master plan and a destination origin research, in which it enabled the implantation of the system. Results: Through the comparison, it was verified that the subway systems bring great benefits to the implanted city's road system, improved spatial distribution, reduced congestion, potentialization of the use of collective transportation due to its specific characteristics such as speed, low cost of use and Large passenger carrying capacity. Conclusion: The subway system is an excellent alternative to solve the problems of cities related to urban mobility, besides improving the road system, also interferes positively in the local economy. Its implantation in a medium sized city would be a stupendous solution, since it would avoid problems of implantation found in big cities, like the great amount of desabrigation and little urban space, however the system requires a great initial cost of implantation, which would be a problem for these cities, due to the economic transfer they.
