Abstract

The Brazilian Tariff System is divided into two groups: Group A, represented by High Voltage consumers, and Group B, represented by Low Voltage consumers. Group A has three types of tariffs: Conventional Tariff (in process of extinction), Green Tariff and Blue Tariff. Group B has two modalities: Conventional Tariff and White Tariff. Among these tariffs, three have different values throughout the day: White, Blue and Green Tariffs. The Time of Use tariffs are based on periods of time regulated by the Brazilian Regulatory Agency, defined as: On-Peak, Off-Peak and Intermediate. The injection of new equipment in the market causes changes in consumer behavior, and it can often change the system's greatest demand period. This paper aims to reflect on the Brazilian tariff system in the face of current consumer behavior, checking the hours of greatest and least demand all over the years and analyzing if the periods of the tariffs proposed for the Utilities are consistent to the current average demand curve of the electric system. For this purpose, it is used the data of consumption of the Brazilian Interconnected System of 2010 and 2016. Likewise, data from a utility is used, comparing its average demand curve with the regulated On-Peak periods.
