Abstract

The roll bending of sheet metals which rest on a rubber pad has only recently been studied scientifically and is dealt with in the present work. In this process, three different zones can be distinguished along the sheet metal profile, including the undeformed zone, the elastic zone, and the plastic zone. The governing differential equations of the deformation zones were investigated for the elastic and plastic bending of the sheet. The equations were solved analytically for elastic bending and analytically–numerically for plastic bending. The effects of the process parameters were then investigated. The elastic–plastic bending solution was verified by experiments.
