Abstract
Objective To discuss the feasibility and safety of the cataract surgery for the poor by Macao Lifeline ExpressLight. Methods Macao Lifeline ExpressLightprovides free surgery for cataract patients in Baiyin, Gansu Province. The phacoemulsification or extracapsular cataract extraction through a small incision and intraocular lens implantation was performed. It went through nearly three months with completion of 1614 surgeries (1618 eyes). Results No endophthalmia or other serious complications occurred after surgeries. In this series 97.34% patients got rid of blindness while 73.98% patients recovered from disability. Conclusion Phacoemulsification or small incision extracapsular cataract extraction operated by Lifeline Express is effective and safe.
