Abstract
The natural existence of optical reflectance on both sides of sample interfaces in FTIR absorption spectra of very thin samples can cause substantial distortions of the true spectra. This document illustrates this, by selected simulated examples, how this distortion depends on the thickness of the sample. For the present purpose, radiation is restricted to collimated and samples are restricted to homogeneous and isotropic. Implications for histopathology are also considered.
