Abstract

Linear permanent magnet machines (LPMMs) are widely used in the industrial field. In a previous research, authors have proposed a new LPMM with three phase multi-layered structure. This new motor could adjust the thrust characteristics by changing the number of layers. However, this motor needs improvement on thrust characteristics because of its low thrust density. Therefore, halbach array was applied to improve the thrust characteristics. Firstly, the optimum ratio of the vertical magnet and the horizontal magnet length was investigated. Next, the comparison of the previous model and the halbach model was conducted by stacking up the motor layers. From the analysis result, the thrust was increased by 2.5N at each number of layers.
