Abstract

Purpose: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease of joint components such as articular cartilage, synovium, and subchondral bone. Although progress has been made in identifying therapeutic targets as the pathogenesis of the disease progresses, it is difficult to achieve sustained drug action on articular cartilage because of the constant circulation of joint fluid by capillaries and lymphatic vessels in the synovium. Aglycan, a major proteoglycan in articular cartilage, is negatively charged.
