Abstract

This study aims to clarify the determinants of teacher well-being by focusing on the causal effects of the trust relationships that teachers create with colleagues. Two online surveys were conducted with high school teachers in Japan. A total of 2508 respondents were included in the analysis. A hybrid fixed-effect model analysis was performed using panel data. The results reveal that teachers' trust relationships with colleagues and principals causally increase subjective well-being and suppress depressive symptoms. Furthermore, teachers’ trust relationships with colleagues prevent harm to their subjective well-being normally caused by increased overtime hours.
