Abstract

The concept, objectives and challenges of converting industrial buildings are considered in the context of the concept of sustainable development principles. It discusses the possibility of converting functionally obsolete, physically and morally deteriorated industrial buildings to use them for other purposes: creating new jobs in the modern economy, meeting social needs and increasing the integrity of the functional and physical structure of the city. The conversion of industrial buildings makes it possible to reduce pollution, solve the problems of urban regeneration, the construction sector to enter the circular economy. The practical part of the article looks at the practices of the London (JK), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Karaganda (Kazakhstan), as examples of successful conversion results, for sustainable urban development.
