Abstract

Charcoal is a product used for various purposes in the pharmaceutical, chemical, steel and metallurgical industries, as well as for domestic use, gasifiers for producing electricity in rural areas, among others. The aim of this study was to analyze the production of charcoal from planted and native forests in Brazil and in the state of Pará. The databases used to compile scientific articles were: Periódicos Capes, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Scopus and Scielo, using the keywords: charcoal, production, economics, extractivism and forestry. Charcoal production in Brazil and Pará is mainly directed towards steel and metallurgical plants. In Brazil and Pará in the years studied, there was a reduction in the production of charcoal from extractivism, while the production of charcoal from planted forests increased.
