Abstract

The results of ultrasonic inspection of discontinuities in the metal of the pipe walls, long time operation under high pressure of wet hydrogen sulfide-containing natural gas, and analysis of the data characterizing them are presented. The criteria for selecting characteristic sections of the pipe with defects and sample cutting for fractographic research are substantiated. Based on the results of the analysis of ultrasound inspection and fractographic investigation, the causes and factors determining the process and mechanisms of sulfide cracking of the pipe walls have been established. The pipeline damage was assessed.
