B. Abstract Radial velocities and line profile measurements are presented which are derived from high-dispersion spectrograms of the O6f star HD 153919 (= 2U 1700-37). A period of 3.4126 days is derived. The velocity amplitudes and mean velocities from different lines are related to their excitation and indicate extreme mass-loss. No direct spectroscopic evidence is found of the secondary, whose mass probably does not exceed 2 solar masses. A model of the system is discussed in which a collapsed star is moving through the extended, rotating envelope of the primary.
