Abstract

The applicability of the electrodiffusion method to the determination of mass-transfer coefficients in the channels of flat-chamber membrane units is discussed. Experimental and theoretical results are compared. Both the similarities and the differences between the equations describing the processes at permeable and impermeable surfaces are noted. The conditions for the applicability of the electrodiffusion method to the modeling of reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration in the flat channels of membrane units are ascertained.
