Abstract

Energy transfer from excited oxygen to iodine results in the emission of a very contrasted band system in the region 1.0–1.7 μm. An analysis of this system leads to the identification of eight energy levels. Various arguments suggest that they belong to the A 3Π 1u state of iodine. The mechanism which populates these levels allows us to identify the I 2(A 3Π 1u) ground vibrational level without ambiguity.
