Abstract

Objectives
Investigate by bibliometric analysis the top 50 most cited articles in the literature on oral manifestations associated with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in individuals undergoing highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and verify the metric, characteristics, and research trend.
Study Design
A search for articles in the electronic database SCOPUS was carried out by a trained and calibrated reviewer to collect variables of interest and analyze the metrics for citing the articles included in the sample.
Results
Among the 50 most cited articles, the number of citations varied between 4 and 135, with an average of 30 citations per article, and the country with the most publications was the United States (n = 10). The Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine was the journal with the largest number of publications (n = 8) and frequency of citations (n = 340). Most publications were cross-sectional studies (78%) that investigated the prevalence and risk factors associated with oral manifestations in individuals using HAART.
Conclusions
The trend for publication is cross-sectional studies that investigated the prevalence and risk factors associated with oral manifestations in individuals on HAART. The articles with the highest citation metrics were published in journals with a high impact factor and H index.
