Abstract

Abstract This article presents a study of 12 golf professionals and one amateur. A selection from 2,500 stroboscopic pictures taken by A. G. Spalding was used to analyze the drive of golf professionals Robert T. Jones, Horton Smith, George Dawson, Jimmy Thomson, Harry Cooper, and one amateur Emil Marciniak. A golf drive checklist was devised for use in the study. A comparison was made between the checklist and selected stroboscopic pictures. The movement of the professionals as analyzed from the pictures did not always agree with their answers on the checklist. There seemed to be agreement on the following points: type of grip; position of head and of ball in relation to the body; the power hand and the method of transferring weight; the arc and path of the club.
