Abstract

Analysis of the dynamic operation of tapered land aerostatic thrust bearing to find the stability criterion is presented. The rate of change of bearing air mass content is calculated by change in mass inflow and outflow rate and equated to the actual rate of change of air mass content derived from the governing equations. Effects of various design and operational parameters on the load carrying capacity, mass flow rate and stability of the bearing were studied.
