Abstract

Based on the Master curve conception, the condition for fracture toughness is formulated for a heterogeneous distribution of stress intensity factor along a crack front and non-monotonic, non-isothermal loading. This formulation includes an elaborated procedure for taking into account the effects of shallow cracks and biaxial loading on fracture toughness.
