Analysis of stick–slip and contact-edge behaviour in a simplified fretting fatigue test

Abstract

The behaviour of a frictional, complete contact has been studied by the finite element method, aided by asymptotic solutions. Conditions for the onset of slip and separation under monotonic loading are established, as is the steady state fully adhered loading range (the shakedown limit), under cyclic loading.
