Abstract
The deflection response of initially stressed functionally graded material rectangular plates subjected to distributed impulsive lateral loads and resting on a fluid layer is obtained. In the current work, material properties are chosen to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution. The developed artificial neural network (ANN) model uses some output results obtained using differential quadrature method. The effects of material variation, initial stress, and fluid reaction on the plate deflection are obtained. Application of ANN method to the current problem showed that ANN technique, with less effort and time, is very efficiently capable of simulating and predicting the plate deflection and the effect of different parameters.
