Abstract

DC Microgrid is small scale power grid which is extensively used in various applications viz data centers, submarines, airplanes and in the remote location with utilization of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). In order to stabilize the DC grid against the intermittency of RES in DC supply voltage and power, recently DC Electric Spring (DC-ES) is arising as a promising solution. In most of the cases the positive DC bus is required. However, the systems such as telecommunication prominently needs −48 V supply indicating the efficient use of negative DC bus. Further, the implementation of different Non-Critical (NC) loads shows dynamic impacts on negative DC grid. This paper explores the applicability of DC-ES in critical load voltage stabilization and provides detail analysis of DC Electric spring with negative DC bus under positive (+ve)/negative (-ve) resistive and constant positive (+ve)/negative power (-ve) non-critical loads using series DC-ES. The comprehensive mathematical analysis of series DC-ES under different NC load conditions is carried out and verified using MATLAB environment.
