Abstract

This experiment demonstrates the measurement of selenium concentration in Brazil nuts using closed-vessel microwave digestion and fluorometric spectrophotometry of a selenium(IV) derivative. A three-dimensional excitation–emission fluorescence spectrum shows that the best response is obtained at 378 nm (excitation) and 518 nm (emission). The concentration of selenium in samples is calculated using a standard-addition method.
