Abstract

A coupled-mode theory is used to analyze a new type of single-phase unidirectional transducer utilizing the internal reflections of floating electrodes of electrically open and shorted strips (FEUDT). Frequency responses of radiation admittance, insertion loss and reflection coefficient are calculated from simple closed-form solutions of coupled-mode equations. Experimental results are given for test devices fabricated on a 128° YX LiNbO3 substrate, which yield good agreement with present theory. A potential application of FEUDT to reflectors and resonators is also described.
