Abstract

The RFECT(Remote Field Eddy Current Testing) is based on a phenomenon that occurs around a solenoidal exciter coil in conductive pipe. In previous researches, the principle of RFECT is generally described as electromagnetic energy flow that has penetrated the pipe wall. It explains that there is remote field zone which is no direct energy coupling zone. To observe the effect of remote field zone is very important to increase sensitivity of detecting defect signal. In this paper, the distribution of eddy current in the pipe wall is analyzed by 3-D finite element method to understand the characteristic of remote field effect clearly. The distribution of eddy current in the pipe is changed by input frequency of an exciter coil and location of remote field zone is also changed with respect to the variation of frequency.
