Abstract
Beam-column connections of high-rise steel frames are usually welded, studies on seismic damages for nodes show that the existence of welding seam is the main reason which contributes to the brittle failure of nodes. This paper studies on the coming into being process of nodes, the deformation ability can be improved through changing welding order to reduce residual stresses for nodes. In the paper, numerical stimulations for nodes are conducted through finite element software. Distribution and peak value of residual stresses of beam-column connections are compared in accordance with different welding order. The analysis provides a theoretical basis for connection nodes in terms of utilizing their strength and ductility of steel.
