Abstract

ABSTRACT Ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy can be used to detect low levels of organic corrosion inhibitors in produced water. An analytical method has been developed using a diode array UV spectrophotometer. The specifics of sample handling and preparation, and methods to stabilize samples for later analysis have been developed. The method is routinely used in the field as part of a comprehensive corrosion monitoring program. The partitioning behavior of corrosion inhibitors, between oil and water, can also be observed using this technique.
