Abstract

This study presents a novel model for understanding the radiation phenomena and calculating the radiation pattern properties of uniform and phase-gradient partially reflective surface (PRS) antennas. This model is extracted for one- and two-dimensional antennas using array theory along with the dispersion analysis of the unit cells. The model can calculate the main lobe radiation pattern, scan angle and half-power beamwidth of uniform and phase-gradient PRSs with broadside, conical or tilted beams with an accuracy better than 5°. Two common PRS unit cell shapes (slotted patch and dipole) are used here.
